Dmytro Bayrak,1992
On July 20, 2024, during a combat mission in Luhansk region, Dmytro sustained a non-penetrating gunshot shrapnel wound to the midface due to artillery shelling (entry: right cheek, exit: left zygomatic area).
Injuries include:
- Multiple fractures of the skull and facial bones
- Comminuted fractures of the nasal bones, all walls of both maxillary sinuses, nasal septum, ethmoid labyrinth, right and left zygomatic bones and arch
- Fractures of the medial, lower, and lateral walls of the left orbit; lower and medial walls of the frontal bone
- Hematosinus (blood accumulation in nasal sinuses)
- Fractures of the left frontal process of the zygomatic bone and the zygomatic process of the frontal bone
- Le Fort II-type maxillary fracture
- Brain contusion with a lesion in the left frontal lobe
- Fracture of the left anterior abdominal wall
- Pneumocephalus (air in the cranial cavity)
- Post-traumatic cataract, partial vitreous hemorrhage, and post-traumatic retinopathy with subretinal bleeding in the right eye.
The treatment is being carried out in several stages.
The first successful surgery — the implantation of a customized, patient-specific set of reconstructive plates for the midface zygomatic-orbital complex — was performed on October 29, 2024.
Dmytro is currently recovering and preparing for the next stage of treatment.
Dmytro was born in Zaporizhzhia and lived there with his family until the full-scale invasion began. He worked as a technician at an industrial plant. He now lives in Kyiv.
He is married and has a young daughter.
Currently, Dmytro has almost completely lost his vision and is unable to communicate. His wife provides constant support and serves as his eyes.
Need: Modeling and production of a customized, patient-specific titanium orbital plate (including a set of fixation screws).
